Roadway Improvement Progresses in the City of Forney
The US 80/FM 548 interchange was prioritized as the first of three
roadway
improvement projects to be initiated in the City of Forney. Additional
projects included in this program are FM 740 (Pinson North) and FM 741
(College).
In large roadway projects such as these, a lot of behind the scenes work
is
completed before citizens see work crews at the project site. Part of
these
behind the scenes milestones include the preliminary plans and
specifications (PS&E) which were submitted during the first half of
2008.
The environmental review was completed in the third quarter of 2008 and
all
required project permit applications were submitted to the appropriate
government agencies. During the last half of 2008, the transportation
reinvestment zone ("TRZ") was approved by the City of Forney. At the
same
time, the City of Forney executed a Pass-Through Toll Agreement with the
State to provide funding for the US 80/FM 548, FM 741 and FM 740
program.
For a more detailed overview of project milestones visit the Schedule
page.
Once the environmental permits were approved, plans were set in motion
during the first half of 2009 to commence the necessary utility
relocations
(see photos of this work on the Photos page). This is the point where
citizens begin to see work crews at the project site. Construction on
the
US 80/FM548 interchange will be initiated in September 2009, FM 741
begins
the following month and FM 740 kicks off the month after. Currently,
the
program is scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2011.
